Potter Performance Engines based in Bradenton, Fla., has added a carbureted 675-hp offering to its line of go-fast boat engines, which range from 550 to 1,600 hp. The first pair of 540-cubic-inch Potter 675s is headed to a customer in the British Virgin Islands, according to company principal Ron Potter.

“I get a lot of calls for engines in this power range,” said Potter. “So we took our existing 650 and made a few modifications, including adding a new electronics package.”

Potter said that he went with a carburetor for the new engine, which lists for $33,000, rather than electronic fuel injection to keep down the price.

“Most people who call for engines in this power range are looking to save money,” he explained. “But we will build this engine with electronic fuel injection for buyers who want that feature. It just adds to the cost because it’s a lot more complicated.”

Price for the fuel injected version of the Potter 675 will be $37,000.
