Sonic Going Big as Sponsor in Key West to Conclude 2016 Poker Run Tour

After a busy summer poker run schedule that included stops in Mississippi, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee and Florida, the dedicated team at Sonic Powerboats is looking forward to one last run to end the season—and it’s a big one, the Key West Poker Run from Miami to Key West, Fla.

Along with running the 32 Fast Cat powered by twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines that Sonic has been showcasing at events around the country, the Fort Pierce, Fla., company is bringing its second Verado 400R-powered 32-footer to display in the Florida Powerboat Club’s Poker Run Village. The company, which is close to wrapping up a 2017 32 Fast Cat with twin Mercury 565 engines that is for sale from the factory, also is going to have its 42 Hyper Sonic with a pair of Mercury 1100 engines on display and available for purchase.

Tony Canale, the world champion offshore racer from Buford, Ga., who was injured in a crash with teammate Gary Jones at the Super Boat International National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., in early October (read VooDoo Luck: Surviving an Offshore Race Crash), was recently appointed COO of Sonic Powerboats, and is excited to be coming to Key West next week even though he won’t be racing. In fact, he’s looking forward to being able to enjoy the pleasure boats and the benefits that come from sponsoring the iconic FPC event.

“We can’t wait to show off the newest 32 Fast Cat—and I think we’re going to shock some people with the price tag,” said Canale, the owner of Canale Marine who is on the road to recovery but won’t be running a boat for a couple of months or so. “It’s an all-white base boat with pearl white and racing red interior from Fineline Marine Interiors. It looks real sharp. We’ve made some changes to the boat that you’ll have to see in Key West. I think it’s going to get a ton of attention.”

According to Canale, with the recent sale of a pair of Sonic’s 36 Ocean Spirit it continues to get a lot of interest as of late as has the company’s 358 SS thanks to its recently updated design. Built for a client in Hanson, Mass., the new 35-foot V-bottom was rigged with triple Mercury Verado 350 engines and constructed with an open bow.
