Speedonthewater.com Named Official Media Partner For APBA Offshore Series

With the first event of the six-race, American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series set for Cocoa Beach, Fla., May 17-19, Powerboat P1, which is partnering in the venture with the Offshore Powerboat Association, has named speedonthewater.com its official media partner for the series. The news was announced in a press release from Powerboat P1, which is based in the United Kingdom but has its United States headquarters in Orlando.

“Effective public and media relations will be an integral part of our marketing and communications program to grow the new series and support our key stakeholders—race venues, teams, sponsors, the media and fans,” said Azam Rangoonwalla, the chief executive officer of Powerboat P1. “We believe that by partnering with speedonthewater.com we will be able to deliver regular news, reports and features that are fresh, accurate and engaging. We want to bring the championship to life across the entire race season.”

“Same-day offshore racing coverage has been part of the editorial mix since we started speedonthewater.com 10 years ago, so we were delighted—and flattered—to be asked to be the official media partner for the OPA/P1-led APBA series,” said Matt Trulio, the editor and co-publisher of the high-performance powerboating news site. “But between races, we’ll be working on the team stories—the human stories—that keep the narrative alive and engaging when there isn’t action on the water.

“My co-publisher, Jason Johnson, and I look forward to developing and publishing the behind-the-scenes, human interest content as much as we do capturing what happens on the racecourse in all six events,” he continued. “Offshore racing seems to ‘disappear’ between races. That’s a problem, and one we hope to help correct.”

Trulio said the arrangement will not preclude speedonthewater.com from offshore racing coverage outside the APBA series.

Super Boat International and Race World Offshore are still forming their schedules,” he said. “We absolutely still plan on covering their events.”
