Summer Richardson to Join Team Farnsworth to Run Low Altitude in Ozarks

In a somewhat surprise announcement, Colorado performance boat enthusiast Win Farnsworth informed speedonthewater.com on Sunday afternoon that he is planning to team up with Southern California performance boater Summer Richardson of Swoop Motorsports to drive Low Altitude, his 50-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran, at next week’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Sunrise Beach, Mo.

Farnsworth, who said in a story two weeks ago that he, Chris Kissinger and Robbie Willis of Elite Marine & Motorsports were going into the Shootout with a goal to run the turbine-powered 50-footer 185 mph, called Richardson on Sunday and asked her if she’d like to drive the boat in the event.

While Richardson’s priority is running the Swoop Motorsports Dial 911 38-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran at the event, she said the opportunity take the wheel in Low Altitude was too good to pass up.

The two, who have been friends for several years, put on quite a show at the end of April when Farnsworth’s boat finished first (183 mph) and Richardson was third (176 mph) overall at the Desert Storm Poker Run Shootout in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. “Summer and I have a great competitive relationship and a desire to always change the game,” said Farnsworth, who will be running in his fourth Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. “We’ve kind of joked about getting her in the boat before, but I thought about it more and figured it would be a cool thing to do this year. She has the opportunity to be the fastest female driver in Shootout history and she can do it with the highest level of safety available.”

Richardson realizes the opportunity to run two boats faster than 170 or 180 mph in the same event is possible, but she isn’t making any predictions.

“We know what the Skater and the Mystic are capable of running, but it all depends on how everything goes on the day of the Shootout,” Richardson said. “Weather and other things can impact our game plan so we’re not making any promises. It’s all about running the boat safely and getting back to the docks to high-five my teammates and fellow competitors.

“Win and I haven’t talked much about details, but I know I’m going to try to get a little seat time in Low Altitude on Thursday morning before the Shootout,” she added. “It’s going to be fun to drive a turbine-powered boat. Last year at Super Cat Fest, Win let me get in the boat and go through the process of starting it up. That was unforgettable so I can only imagine what it will be like to run down the Shootout course.”
