Super Stock Super Solid For Offshore At The Ozarks Clash

With five committed Super Stock-class teams—CR Racing, Jackhammer, LPC, Performance Boat Center, Team Allen Lawncare and Landscaping and WIA Marine Insurance—in its backyard, the October 2-3 Offshore At The Ozarks-Cat Edition contest on the Lake of the Ozarks already has a built-in fleet in the outboard engine-powered catamaran category. The Central Missouri waterway is home-water to all five teams, most of which participated in exhibition races during the 32nd annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout last week.

But the Super Stock-class fleet, likely to be more than a 10 boats strong, also will pull teams from the East Coast.

Among those is the cockpit paring of Floridians Eric Belisle and two-time F1 H20 tunnel-boat world champion Shaun Torrente. Belisle will drive their new 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran dubbed Shaun Torrente Racing. Its namesake will throttle.

“I pay all the bills,” Belisle said, then laughed. “He gets all the glory.”

The Sunshine State contingent will include Ryan Beckley, who was featured in the most recent American Power Boat Association Propellor print magazine. Backed by locally owned TNT Caddy Shack in Osage Beach, which also is home event sponsor Performance Boat Center, Beckley will run his 30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran with Tom Kennedy in the contest. Gary Ballough, Beckley’s fellow Floridian team owner and sometimes mentor, will throttle his FJ Propeller raceboat with Darren Kittredge behind the well. Like Reese Langheim and Ricky Maldonado of the Jackhammer team, Ballough and Kittredge will run a 32-foot Victory catamaran.

Here is a quick look at some of the Super Stock teams confirmed so far for the event.

Ballough, Beckley and company won’t be the only East Coasters making the trek to the Lake of the Ozarks. Owner/driver Alberta Penta of Connecticut will be joined the cockpit of Phase 05, a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran that formerly ran as Killer Bee, with veteran throttleman Jay Muller of New Jersey.

“I am really excited,” said Penta, who had significant work—including a face-lift incorporating elements of the boat’s original Doug Harrell design graphics—done to the boat in the off-season. “We will showcase Phase 05’s new identity and we have some really impressive features and seat safety neck restraint upgrades that I’m hoping are class will embrace.”

During the 32nd annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout last weekend, this exhibition race foreshadowed the Super Stock-class battle to come at the lake in early October.
