Sweers Team Acquiring FJ Propeller 32-Foot Doug Wright Raceboat

Bitten hard by the Stock-class racing bug while running a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran in the class during the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla., last month, Randy Sweers of FB Marine Group and Brian Marquardt of Lumbarton Offroad are finalizing details for the purchase of another Doug Wright 32-footer. Owned by Gary Ballough, the cat formerly ran successfully in the class as FJ Propeller and most recently claimed an SBI world championship in 2016.

“I started in the Stock class back in 1995 and had a great time racing with Brian in Key West this past year,” said Sweers. “So we’re planning on running together in that class for the 2019 season.”

For several years under various sponsors, Sweers also competed in SBI’s Superboat class with a few different drivers. That run most likely is coming to an end.

“I am probably going to be putting my 41-foot MTI Super Cat and equipment up for sale,” he said.

Reached by phone this morning, Ballough said he “definitely plans to continue” in offshore racing but declined to elaborate further.
