Tenth Annual Lake Powell Challenge Does Not Disappoint

While the event isn’t over as the dinner, awards party and Fund A Cure auction is still yet to come this evening, I couldn’t wait to share some of my favorite pictures from today’s Lake Powell Challenge hosted by Antelope Point Marina in Page, Ariz.

Of course the “pro” photos are going to be coming soon from Tom Leigh, but in the meantime my amateur shots will have to do.

First things first, credit needs to be given to Burl Griswold, Megan Bobroski and the rest of the team at Antelope Point Marina for working their tails off to put together such a cool, stress-free event.

Besides the incredible boats on hand and the top-notch facilities, by far my favorite part of the event was the 150 to 200 miles we covered today in the most amazing scenery I’ve scene in the many events I’ve covered across the country.

Fortunately I had amazing tour guides—Scottsdale, Ariz., residents Mark and Jennifer Schouten, who own the El Gato Patrón, a 43-foot MTI catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350/1100 dual-fuel engines, and call the lake home.

While there are tons of participants who attend this event every year, I ran into several people who have never been to the event before, including New Jersey’s Bob Christie, California’s Gary Colledge and Georgia’s John O’Neill. All three of them promise to be back next year. In fact, O’Neill, who rode around on Greg and Brenda McCauley’s MTI-V 42 today, said “this is the coolest place I’ve ever been in my life.”

After spending a few days here, I think I have to agree with Mr. O’Neill.
