The Incredible Sights—And Fundraising Efforts—Of Super Cat Fest

In its 10th year of hosting some of the coolest high-performance catamarans—and now radical V-bottoms and performance center consoles—at Camden on the Lake Resort in Lake Ozark, Mo., the extraordinary Super Cat Fest put on another excellent show and continued to grow the event.

By rebranding its Friday night bikini contest to the Bikini Lives Matter affair, which was heavily promoted by a new three-stop Bikini Lives Matter pool party on Thursday, and expanding to include the property across the cove—Shady Gators—in a way that’s never been done before, this year’s Super Cat Fest hit all the right notes.

“Wow was that amazing and tiring,” said a hoarse Nikki Sorenson, who organized the event this year with her friend and Super Cat Fest founder Alvin Heathman. “We had such an incredible turnout and everyone was so well behaved. It was cool to have the HCB Yachts guys get involved like they did. Those boats were something else. And getting to see them sitting next to the coolest boats from Mystic Powerboats, MTI, Skater Powerboats, DCB and more was pretty unbelievable.”

Sorenson thanked Willie G. and all of the manufacturers and customers who participated in the event as well as Chris Wagner and the team at WIA Marine Insurance for stepping in as title sponsor of Super Cat Fest.

Camden on the Lake Resort played host to the 10th annual Super Cat Fest again this year.

Brad Benson, who lives in Arizona and brought his DCB Performance Boats M33R Widebody catamaran with twin Mercury Racing Verado 400R engines to the event for the first time, said he had an incredible time at Super Cat Fest and the coinciding Lake of the Ozarks Shootout. He added that the Camden on the Lake property and rooms were top notch, and said that it was nice to be able to come and go so easily from the resort. He also thought having his boat at the docks for thousands of people to gawk at was pretty cool as well.

“The Lake of the Ozarks is out of this world,” he said. “I might to have to make this an annual trip.”

Like last year, Super Cat Fest hosted the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout live auction on Saturday night, which featured a delicious dinner that was covered by John Woodruff, the Georgia native who owns the Windship helicopter and 48-foot MTI catamaran that were on display together at the docks. Although the final tally isn’t official, the live auction reportedly raised more than $125,000 for the dozens of local charities that benefit from the annual event, which has been going on for 31 years.

Super Cat Fest also played a major role in helping to make sure the Speedonthewater.com Center Console Roundup that took place at Shady Gators went smoothly. And boy did it. We photographed and tested 11 boats, which are going to be featured in the September/October digital magazine, and our entire test team had a blast doing it.

It’s probably already apparent to you, but if not, you need to plan ahead and make it to Super Cat Fest and the Lake of the Ozarks in 2020. You won’t be disappointed. No first-timer ever is. Just ask Benson or the Branton family, who came from Louisiana to run their 38-foot Skater and experience the lake for the first time, or Tyler Kaddatz of the apparel and marketing promotional materials company, TK Kustoms, for that matter. Kaddatz was blown away with the event after hanging out with the Speedonthewater.com team last week.
