Tickfaw 200 Poker Run Adding Stop In Mississippi For 2019

In hopes of getting more participants to complete even more of the poker run, organizers of the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run hosted by Blood River Landing in Springfield, La., have decided to add an out-of-state stop for the first time in the history of the event.

So, rather than the card stop at The Blind Tiger in Slidell, La., being the furthest stop to the east, the run is going to continue to Shaggy’s Pass Harbor in Pass Christian, Miss., making it a 280-mile course that is sure to bring some added challenges to an event that is known for its challenging and enduring aspects.

Of course, organizers understand the longer course won’t be for everyone, but they hope the extra card—as well as the opportunity for extra boating and any other special incentives that may arise between now and early May—encourages enough people to make the run to Shaggy’s.

“We’ve been talking about this for a few years now so we’re excited to give it a try for 2019 and add a stop in Mississippi,” said Casey Harrison, a longtime organizer of the event. “The timing was right this coming year as we confirmed that the Smokin’ the Sound Poker Run in Mississippi is not happening so we’re not stepping on anyone’s toes there. I really don’t know how many people will continue on past Slidell to Shaggy’s but I think anyone who is here to go boating—not just for the socialization—will put in the extra miles. And I can promise you that it will make for a fun day on the water.

“Some of our participants have been pushing to make the run longer,” he continued. “It’s been tougher lately to get people past Prop Stop, so maybe this will help. Either way, it’s nice to get people excited for something new or different. We try to change things up as much as we can around here, but being that we’re going to a different state for the first time makes the excitement that much better.”

Harrison, who added that the team at Shaggy’s has been extremely receptive to being part of the event, said the facility in Pass Christian is top-notch and easy to get in and out of from the Gulf of Mexico.
