Torrente and Al-Mansoori Claim XCAT World Championship For Team Abu Dhabi

Although the final race of the Union Internationale Motonautique XCAT World Championship set for next week in Dubai is shown as cancelled on the series website—meaning the 2018 season is complete—there has been no official news from the organizers regarding the conclusion.

With that being the case, it seems—and has been reported by PowerboatRacingWorld.com—that Team Abu Dhabi 4’s Shaun Torrente and Faleh Al-Mansoori earned the 2018 XCAT world title after winning final last three races of the eight-race season, which was expected to be 12 races, and finishing nine points ahead of the Dubai Police team Nadir Bin Hendi and Arif Saif Al-Zafeen and 29 points ahead of their teammates Rashed Al-Tayer and Majed Al-Mansoori in Team Abu Dhabi 5.

However it worked out, Torrente and Al-Mansoori, are proud of the achievement.

“Honestly we came into this season hoping to gain some good experience and get our team ready to compete at the highest level in XCAT,” said Torrente, who left his home in Florida on Sunday to rejoin and test with the Team Abu Dhabi F1 H2O outfit—the series he currently sits atop the points standings with two races remaining. “Our team came together better than we expected and we got on a real roll at the end there. It’s too bad the last race didn’t happen, but we’re thrilled to win the championship.”

Torrente said the team is going to be testing this week in preparation for the F1 H2O race in Abu Dhabi (Dec. 6-8) followed by the season finale in Sharjah (Dec. 13-15).

“My focus now is on closing out the F1 H2O world championship,” Torrente said. “I’m in a good position to do so but my main goal, along with my teammates Erik (Stark) and Thani (Al-Qemzi), is to win the championship for Abu Dhabi. That’s the most important thing.”
