Two Lake Of The Ozarks Shootout Poker Runs Expected To Fill Up Early

Based on the fact that the lake is open and there aren’t a lot of other events going on this summer, the team behind the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout is expecting a big turnout for both of the poker runs coming up next month.

The first run—the Run What Ya Brung Poker Run presented by Premier Advantage Marine—kicks off the weeklong Shootout festivities on Friday, Aug. 21. The event, which includes a pre-registration gathering at Premier Advantage Marine on Thursday evening, is open to boats of all shapes and sizes. In fact, the more different the boat, the better, according to the volunteer committee behind this run.

The run, which begins at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill—the host location for the Shootout on the following weekend (Aug. 29-30)—with a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., includes five stops at Larry’s on the Lake, Paradise, Redhead Lakeside Grill, Franky & Louie’s and Dog Days. Participants are going to draw cards at Dog Days, which is the final stop.

The event’s larger poker run, which is limited to 120 entries, is the Poly Lift Boat Lifts and Lakefront Living Realty Annie Faulstich Poker Run taking place on Friday, Aug. 28. The run features eight stops, including a breakfast stop from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Captain Ron’s. The other stops include Big Dick’s Halfway Inn, Larry’s on the Lake, Nauti Fish, The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels, Paradise, Redhead’s Lakeside Grill and Shady Gators, which is the final stop with awards set to be presented at 6 p.m.

According to Connie Weyer, one of the Shootout’s longtime committee members, the online registrations are starting to come in steadily.

“Everyone is expecting a big turnout this year so we want to remind people to sign up early that way they get through the registration process quicker and we have all of their information on hand and the correct shirt sizes for their crew,” said Weyer, who owned Advantage Marine in Sunrise Beach with her husband, Dave, before they merged in early June with Premier 54 Motorsports and were renamed Premier Advantage Marine. “We’re grateful to have Poly Lift and Lakefront Living Realty on board as major sponsors. The team at Poly Lift has always been so dedicated to this event. They do a lot for the Shootout and this community overall.”

Weyer added that participants need to make it to at least five stops to get a poker hand—with two of those stops being the start and finish locations. The other three, or more depending on how much boating someone wants to do, is up to the participants.
