Behind The Scenes With The Speed On The Water ‘In The Lead’ Video Series Crew

Gracious hosts always, our friends at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri got a heavy dose of us last week. That’s because we were in town not just to chronicle the seventh annual Cigarette Owners Rendezvous, but to capture footage for the Brett Manire, Mark Waddington and Justin Wagner segments of our seven-episode “In The Lead With” video series powered by Mercury Racing, with additional financial support from MYCO Trailers and Hamilton Marine Finance.

Scrapyard Media’s primary videographer Brad DiMaggio—his colleague Ryan Wenk handles much of the final editing and post-production work—found plenty to keep him busy at the Lake of the Ozarks last week. Photo by Jason Johnson copyright speedonthewater.com.

For those who may have missed it, the first episode—“In The Lead With Grant Bruggemann”—went live Thursday, June 4. The next segment, which focuses on Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen of Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, will air on Thursday, July 8.

Episode No. 3, “In The Lead With Shaun Torrente,” will air in early August. The episode focused on Mystic Powerboats founder John Cosker will run in early September.

All installments of the series are being hosted on the Speed On The Water YouTube channel.

But back to the Lake of the Ozarks. Joined by speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden who came to capture the Cigarette event, Scrapyard Media’s Brad DiMaggio and Ryan Wenk spent the better part of five days capturing video for the Manire/Waddington and Wagner episodes. Speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson scripted and conducted the interviews.

Having done the same with DiMaggio and Wenk for a couple of weeks in April in Southwest Florida, I was there to provide whatever support I could while keeping daily content for speedonthewater.com flowing and—of crucial importance to all—making dinner reservations at Baxter’s Lakeside Grille.

The video footage for “In The Lead With Justin Wagner” of Waves and Wheels has been captured.

We left the lake with hours of fantastic video footage, which the Scrapyard boys will form into compelling 10-plus-minute stories. The editing process is no small task, but DiMaggio and Wenk proved how gifted and frankly damn good they are with the Bruggemann video. We expect great things.

One more road trip remains for the series. In the fall, we’ll head to Southern California to shoot the “In The Lead With Tony Chiaramonte” segment. From there, we’ll pop over to Lake Havasu in Arizona to capture Chiaramonte, the most forward-facing member of the DCB Performance Boats owners group, in action on the water.

The final episode in the series, “In The Lead With Tony Chiaramonte” will air in early December.

During the early part of last week, the speedonthewater.com team forced Performance Boat Center’s Brett Manire to (sort of) stop moving for a few minutes.
