Speed On The Water Launching ‘In The Lead’ Video Series

Powered by Mercury Racing, our new “In The Lead” video series kicks off next Thursday with the story of Grant Bruggemann—the multi-time offshore racing world champion and rigger extraordinaire behind Grant’s Signature Racing. The series, which also is backed by MYCO Trailers and Hamilton Marine Finance, is going to be presented on the Speed On The Water YouTube channel. A new six-plus-minute segment will air every month until the end of the year and will be carried on the social media portals of its sponsors as well as those of speedonthewater.com.

The series focuses on high-performance marine industry leaders in addition to Bruggemann, including Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen of Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Shaun Torrente of Shaun Torrente Racing, John Cosker of Mystic Powerboats, Mark Waddington and Brett Manire of Performance Boat Center, Justin Wagner of Waves and Wheels, and Tony Chiaramonte of DCB Performance Boats.

After reading and enjoying our 2020 Speed On The Water digital magazine Interview Issue, the 2021 version of which will go live in two weeks, Mercury Racing marketing manager Andrea Jansen approached the Speedonthewater.com team last summer about taking that feature story-telling approach to the video realm. Our discussions continued throughout the fall and once we delivered the In The Lead series proposal we were given the greenlight to pursue the project.

Our first order of business—after successfully pitching the In The Lead concept and selecting individuals to feature—was to hire a video production team. We asked for proposals from and interviewed several companies before selecting Michigan-based Scrapyard Media owned and operated by Brad DiMaggio and Ryan Wenk. In DiMaggio and Wenk, we found not just a couple of fun-loving 29-year-old kindred spirits who share our storytelling vision, but a couple of true pros who were able to translate our written storylines into compelling videos.

As a team, we traveled together, laughed constantly, enjoyed tequila and worked as hard as we ever have to create what we believe is the most-compelling video series—one that actually tells stories—the high-performance powerboat world has ever seen. (And there is still more of the same to be done.) A bold sentiment, no doubt, but one we’re sure you’ll share.

Next up after Bruggemann? Nor-Tech founders Schou and Johnsen, who are celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary this year. But you’ll have to wait for July for that one. In the meantime, look for a Monday teaser for the Bruggemann segment followed by the full video later in the week.
