Boyne Thunder Poker Run Raises Approximately $250,000

When it comes to size, the annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run in Northern Michigan is limited to 120 boats—the docks in Boyne City simply can’t handle more vessels. But there are no limits on the generosity of the event’s loyal participants, and that showed this year with approximately $250,000 raised for its benefitting charities, most notably the Camp Quality Michigan and Challenge Mountain programs for children.

“It is not a final number as we await some final items but we will be right around $250,000,” said Ingrid Day, Boyne Thunder’s events coordinator. “It was a banner day—and a banner year.”

Prior to the 2022 happening, the high-total for all proceeds from Boyne Thunder was $210,000. That mark was achieved in 2018. The 2022 event’s record-setting total got a big boost from the post-run Saturday night auction, which raised approximately $140,000 and doubled the proceeds from the then-record-setting auction last year.

“The Boyne Thunder Poker Run organizing committee appreciates our sponsors, donors and participants,” Day said. “Because of them, we can better serve the children and families that benefit from the activities and support from Camp Quality and Challenge Mountain.”

Set for July 8-9, Boyne Thunder celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2023.

“We can’t wait to dial it up for 20th,” Day said.

Space at the annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run is limited. Generosity is not.
