CMR Construction And Roofing To Back Shaun Torrente Racing This Season

Recently named as the series partner for the six-race, 2021 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series circuit, which begins this weekend in Cocoa Beach, Fla., CMR Construction and Roofing also is backing the Super Stock-class Shaun Torrente Racing team this season. The team’s 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran was wrapped with the graphics of its new, Florida-based sponsor at Kinetic Animation in Sarasota, Fla., today in advance of its Thunder on Cocoa Beach debut.

“We finalized the deal about a week ago, and I got to meet Steve Soule, the CEO of the company, and Chuck Spicer, his marketing manager,” said Torrente, the STR team’s owner and throttleman, who will share the cockpit with driver and fellow Southwest Florida resident Eric Belisle. “They’re really good dudes, and I like that CMR is a privately owned, national business. I think it’s a really good fit for our team.”

Soule said he’s delighted to have his company back the series, as well as Torrente, who entered the Super Stock-class ranks during the abbreviated, three-event 2020 season and had a strong showing in those outings.

“Florida is a key market for CMR and our boat sponsorship with Shaun and Eric gives us a first-hand connection with a top team,” Soule said. “P1 offshore racing is a great way to connect with race fans to showcase CMR Construction & Roofing products and our outstanding service.”

P1 Offshore/Powerboat P1 chief executive officer Azam Rangoonwala worked closely on the deal. He described the CMR sponsorship of the STR team as a key element of the company’s sponsor partnership with the series.

“The relationship with Shaun and Eric at STR will give CMR first-hand involvement with highly professional racers in the largest and most-competitive class in the championship,” he said.

As for Torrente and Belisle, they’re looking forward to their full season in what has become offshore powerboat racing’s largest catamaran class. They tested and practiced throughout the off season. But as usual, Torrente, the defending, back-to-back F1 H2O series tunnel-boat racing world champion, isn’t making any predictions.

“I don’t do a lot of talking—I do a lot of racing,” he said. “That seems to work out all right for us.

“Whenever we go to a race, we expect to have a result that is commensurate with the advance work we put in,” he added.

The original graphic renderings for the CMR graphics on the STR raceboat are now reality and will be showcased this weekend.
