Commentary: Cosker, Miles And Mills—January Men

The biggest challenge of a January 2 birthday has to be finding someone—anyone—who still wants to celebrate with you. Most folks are pretty well celebrated-out by the time the second day of any new year rolls around.

But there is hope this year for Florida’s John Cosker of Mystic Powerboats, Stephen Miles of Kentucky-based Stephen Miles Design and Chris Mills of Boat Customs in Michigan, all of whom are celebrating birthdays today.

It’s Sunday. And New Year’s Eve is a full day and night behind us.

People have had a chance, at least, to regroup. Saturday’s college bowl games don’t go into the wee hours and most folks are ready to hit the rack early that night. That, plus the mildly depressing notion of Monday gives the likes of Cosker, 54, Miles, 49, and Mills, 41, at least some hope that someone will want to play with them today.

Truth be told, they’re already celebrating in their own ways. Cosker and his wife, Robin, are following up yesterday’s Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run in Sarasota, Fla., with today’s Fort Myers Offshore Holiday Run in a Mystic C4000 catamaran. Miles is taking a rare day off at home. Mills is playing in the snow with his daughters.

Far from the warm days spent in Florida last spring, Mills and his family are enjoying the Michigan snow today.

So as we roll into another year of bringing your news to our readers, we will celebrate you today, gentlemen. That’s just the kind of dedicated friends we are. We won’t let you down.
