Conner To Drive LPC Super Stock Cat In Key West Worlds

When the Missouri-based, Super Stock-class LPC team takes green flag next Wednesday for the first of three days of racing in Key West, Fla., team owner and throttle Loren Peters will a new partner in the cockpit. Sean Conner, a California-based yacht consultant/broker who was a Miss GEICO/AMF crew member from 2006 through 2008, will tackle LPC driving duties in the team’s 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran in the upcoming Race World Offshore-produced American Power Boat Association/Union International Motonautique Offshore World Championships.

“I’m excited to be sharing the cockpit with Loren in Key West,” said Conner, who has a new third-generation 32-foot Doug Wright for Super Stock-class competition under construction for the 2022 season. “As my Doug Wright hull moves through its build process, it will be nice to have seat time in another of Doug’s creations. Racing with Gary Ballough on multiple occasions this year has been very helpful preparation for Key West, so I’m looking forward to challenge of lining up against such a large fleet of boats next week.”

Peters met Conner earlier this season and Conner began working on the LPC crew.

“He just jumped right in and became a full-blown member of our team,” he said. “He dove in and earned my respect.

As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, an LPC catamaran rollover during the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series last month in the Fort Myers Beach, Fla., season final left Peters and his crew scrambling to make repairs. They are finishing up the work just in time for 32-footer to be hauled to Key West this weekend and will be ready for testing before Wednesday’s contest, which be followed another race Friday and a double-points race on Sunday.

Until now, Peters had shared the LPC cockpit with Supercat-class SV Racing team throttleman Vinnie Diorio of Wisconsin. But with the world championships just around the corner, Diorio said he needs to direct his complete attention to his own team, which he co-owns with Canadian driver Simon Prevost.

“To jump between two boats is really hard and Vinnie needed to focus on his team for Key West,” said Peters. “But I loved having Vinnie in my boat. We were two peas in a pod.”

“It was absolutely great,” said Diorio. “But Simon and I have a big investment and not being 100-percent in our boat in Fort Myers Beach made me think.”

As for Conner’s future Super Stock raceboat, it will be rigged by current Huski Chocolate crew chief/former Miss GEICO team manager Gary Stray.

“To have Gary Stray rigging my boat is a privilege and I can’t wait to get it on the water,” he said. “The Super Stock class is currently the most populous class, and as such it is the most competitive. I think the class is the product of a great formula—it’s relatively economical, the boats are reliable and will enjoy even more reliability next year with the option of running the Mercury Racing 300R, and there is a notable camaraderie among the teams.”
