Dates Changed For Race World Offshore Clearwater Contest

Originally set for September 30-October 2, Race World Offshore’s contest in Clearwater, Fla., has been rescheduled. The new dates for the Hooters-backed event, which is the seventh of eight races in the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, are September 23-25.

An APBA member-organization, Key West, Fla.-based Race World Offshore announced the change in a post on its website.

“This change is completely unexpected and out of our control,” the announcement stated. “The City of Clearwater notified Race World Offshore and our event producer this past Friday that the National Ironman event was previously scheduled in 2020 and had been postponed for two years, is now returning in 2022 for the October 1 weekend. We have tried everything possible to get it rescheduled or have some workaround and not conflict with the Offshore race. Unfortunately, due to various factors including too many road closures, beach road closures, Pier 60 closing, and the high demand for city police, there is no allowance for flexibility.”

Though the Clearwater date change gives competitors an extra week to prepare for Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach on October 8, it also moves it one week closer to the September 3-4 St. Petersburg Grand Prix. Both Southwest Florida races are part of the APBA series.

The Clearwater event is celebrating its 13th anniversary this year—prior to Race World Offshore it ran under the Super Boat International umbrella. The venue hosted that now-defunct organization’s national championships and the event is still dubbed the Hooter’s Offshore National Championships by its organizers. The event is on the 2022 Super Stock and Super Cat-class owner-established schedules.

The APBA series begins May 19-22 in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

“We wanted to notify everyone as soon as possible to make lodging and travel adjustments,” the release continued. “We do apologize for the change of dates and only wish there was some other resolution.”
