DCB Delivers First Open-Bow M33R Catamaran

From the delivery of the first Mercury Racing 700 SCi engine-powered M28 catamaran last month to the upcoming release of a true-tunnel outboard-powered catamaran dubbed the M37R, DCB Performance Boats has been dealing with more than a few “firsts” of late. And with the delivery of the first open-bow M33R catamaran on an Extreme Custom trailer this morning in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., the El Cajon, Calif., custom go-fast boat company just notched another.

The 33-footer was ordered by Tony and Annike Monroe, a Pomona, Calif., couple who has home in Lake Havasu City. Their current boat is an open-bow, 26-foot catamaran from Cobra Performance Boats. Given that they enjoying boating with their children and friends on the Colorado River, ordering the twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engine-powered cat made sense for them.

“We ordered it with the kids in mind,” said Tony Monroe. “We love the open bow in our Cobra. It makes the boat so much more useable—you’re not just ‘stuck’ in the cockpit all day.”

In early January, the Monroes headed for the Los Angeles Boat Show at the Pomona Fairplex. They were just going to check out the new hardware. They had no intention of buying a new boat—until they stopped by the DCB display.

“We saw one in the DCB booth and feel in love with it,” Monroe said, then laughed. “It just went from there.”

The catamaran—M33R hull No. 8—isn’t just the family’s first DCB creation. It is their first outboard-powered boat. (The 450-hp supercharged outboards are mounted on Shaun Torrente Racing X-Act brackets.)

“Even though the roar of an engine sounds great, I got over it a long time ago,” said Monroe. “Plus, the 450R outboards are super reliable.”

DCB’s Tony Chiaramonte put the 33-footer through its first test session on Lake Elsinore in Southern California earlier this week.

The fully capped, rubrail-free 33-footer was constructed through the Vacuum Infused Resin process and includes carbon fiber and foam coring in its lamination schedule. Its Phase III gelcoat graphics were color-matched to its interior, which features a combination of Alcantara and CHILL Cool Tech marine vinyl, as well as its SeaDek flooring package.

“It’s an absolutely stunning boat,” said Jeff Johnston, who delivered the 33-footer to its owner today with fellow DCB team member Tony Chiaramonte. “And it should top out around 115 mph.”

Cockpit amenities include DCB’s Stage IV stereo system and a Rigid LED lighting package. (The buyers also opted for an underwater LED lighting package.) The dash is set up with a pair of Evo3 12-inch SIMRAD touch-screen monitors, one for the driver and one for the copilot.

Given that the boat was ordered with family use in mind, a billet foot-shower and a 40-inch swim platform with SeaDek surfacing and a retractable boarding ladder were natural options.

The M33R is the first DCB for Tony and Annike Monroe.
