DCB Delivers Fifth M28R Catamaran With Mercury Racing 450R Outboards

Yesterday’s delivery of a new DCB Performance Boats M28R Widebody catamaran to a repeat customer marked the fifth the time the custom cat builder based in El Cajon, Calif., has equipped one its 28-foot beauties with Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines. The company’s Tony Chiaramonte and Jeff Johnston hauled the boat to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., to hand off the boat to its owner.

Another stunning new M28R Widebody catamaran with Mercury Racing 450R outboards was delivered to its owner this week by Tony Chiaramonte and Jeff Johnston of DCB Performance Boats.

The DCB crew mounted the supercharged 450-hp V-8 outboards on Shaun Torrente Racing’s STR X-Act brackets. Constructed using the Vacuum Infused resin process, the foam-cored, partial-carbon-fiber-layup 28-footer reportedly tops 120 mph with the Mercury Racing power package.

On the softer side of things, the M28R’s five-seat cockpit boasts all-Alcantara upholstery with CNC stitching. Aft the bucket seats for the driver and co-pilot, the rear bench has retractable armrests for each passenger. The half-capped boat is dressed in DCB’s Phase III gelcoat package—with exposed carbon fiber as a graphic element—and its upholstery and SeaDek flooring are color-matched to its exterior.

Helm station instruments include two Mercury VV9 touch-screen monitors and a 10-inch Garmin GPS unit. The buyer opted for the builder’s Stage II stereo system, which translations to a Fusion head unit, two hard-wired remotes , two JL Audio amplifiers, a dozen JL Audio M6 midrange speakers with LEDs and a pair of 12-inch JL Audio M7 free-air subwoofers. For lighting, the client went with a complete LED package in the cockpit, as well as a 10-inch Shadow Caster underwater LED.

DCB delivered the cat on a double-axle, painted MYCO trailer with a drive guard and a courtesy ladder produced by Adrenaline trailers in Lake Havasu.

“Everything about the delivery went great,” said Johnston. “This boat-and-power package is getting popular.”

Viewed from any angle, the M28R is a looker.
