First Eight-Seat M37R Catamaran Going To Repeat DCB Clients

A charming couple out of Auburn, Ala., Steve and Kelly Marino began climbing the DCB Performance Boats ladder in 2018 with an M28R catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines. They loved the 28-footer, but it was a prelude to the new DCB M35 Widebody catamaran with twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines they took delivery of a year later.

After owning two DCB catamarans, Steve and Kelly Marino ordered their third DCB on experienced-based faith in the company.

Now they have a new DCB M37R Widebody cat with Mercury Racing 450R outboards waiting for them when they take delivery before the Desert Storm Poker Run (April 24-28) in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. They ordered their 37-footer on faith in the DCB Performance Boats brand alone.

“They’ve never even sat in an M37R,” said Jeff Johnston, the company’s president. “They’ve never seen one in person. They just ordered it based on their trust in the product.”

The decision was easy, according to Steve Marino.

The Marino family’s new DCB Performance Boats M37R cat is the first with an eight-seat cockpit—but it won’t be the last.

“I’ve never had a problem with anything at DCB,” he said. “When Jeff proposed the idea of a 37, I said, ‘OK, I trust you,’ and that was it.”

Not only will the cat be a first on multiple levels for the Marinos, it’s the first eight-seat M37R DCB has built. The addition of two high-back bucket seats in the cockpit was driven by the couple’s desire to be closer to their daughters when the boat is underway. And DCB’s Johnston and Tony Chiaramonte expect the extra seating to become a popular interior option for the cat.

“It started with me asking Jeff if we could do removable ‘jump-seats,’ ” Marino said. “And it became a full-blown, eight-seat cockpit, which is bad-ass, that we can enjoy as a family. With all four of us closer together, we can keep a closer eye on the girls.”

Unlike the Twin Ladies handle they gave with their since-sold 35-footer in honor of their seven-year-old daughters, Zoey and Samantha, the Marinos have dubbed their newest DCB creation Unexpected. The name was inspired by their 17-week-old daughter, Hannah Faith.

“I didn’t expect that my wife, at 41 years old, would tell me she was having another baby,” Marino said, then laughed.

As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, the Marinos took delivery of a Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 390 Sport Console last May. Kelly Marino actually was pregnant at the time. But they are not the first couple to own a color-matched DCB M37R and a Nor-Tech 390. That distinction belongs to Ken and Renee Lalonde of Upstate New York.

At the end of April in Lake Havasu City, the Marinos will meet their M37R for the first time.

“The new boat exists and it’s waiting for us at Lake Havasu,” Marino said. “I just got a text from my friend, Riley, and he said, ‘I can’t believe you aren’t using your boat yet.’ It’s just sitting there and nobody’s using it.

“That’ll change,” Marino added, then laughed again. “I love the brand. I love the DCB guys. And I already love the boat.”

Just 17 weeks old, Hannah Faith Marino provided the inspiration for the boat’s name.
