Diorio Joining Peters In LPC Raceboat To Kick Off 2021 Super Stock-Class Season

With veteran Super Stock-class racer Mike Wright taking a break from the cockpit this year, Loren Peters, the owner of the Missouri-based LPC team, has been looking for a driver for his 32-foot Doug Wright raceboat. That role—at least for the start of the season—will be filled by Vinnie Diorio, the co-owner and throttleman of the Supercat-class SV Racing team, which runs a 39-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats catamaran.

A longtime friend of Peters, Diorio was slated to replace Wright in the cockpit with for the 2020 Offshore Powerboat Association World Championships in Morehead City, N.C., last October, as Wright had a schedule conflict. Wright resolved the issue and was able to run with Peters to end the three-event, COVID-19-abbreviated season, but earlier this month announced he was stepping out of the boat.

“Me and Vinnie are really good friends,” said Peters, who is vacationing in Key West, Fla., with his fiance, Jordan Gumm. “He’s pumped. We’re going to be testing at the Lake of the Ozarks next week and getting the boat dialed in.”

Currently headed to Key West with his wife, Christy, to join Peters and Gumm, Wright will be the LPC team’s crew chief this season. “He’ll be in charge of the boat,” said Peters.

Between driving the LPC cat and throttling SV Racing, Diorio will be busy this season. He views his additional role with Peters as an expanded learning opportunity.

“More seat time can only benefit me,” said Diorio “They only way to ever come close to the big dogs of this sport like Steve Curtis, John Tomlinson, Grant Bruggemann, Jay Muller and Myrick Coil is to get the seat time. I also think it will help me with picking set-up for the big boat.”
