Electric Shootout Record In Reach For E-Motion-Powered Bruce 22 This Weekend

In a position to set a new Lake of the Ozarks Shootout record for an electric-powered boat if all goes as planned on Saturday and Sunday (Aug. 28-29), the team at Vision Marine Technologies in Montreal, Canada, isn’t focused on a particular top speed or making a certain number of attempts on the three-quarter-mile course in front of Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill, the Sunrise Beach, Mo., host location for the 33rd annual event.

Alexandre Mongeon, the company’s chief executive officer, Xavier Montagne, the chief technology officer, and the rest of the team at Vision Marine, a leader in the electric recreational boating industry serving both OEMs and consumers, are mainly excited just to be able to showcase the company’s fully electric innovative powertrain technology at its first on-water public event. The fact is that they’ve each been a part of the propulsion teams that powered both electric boats driven by Boating Magazine’s Randy Vance on the course in 2019 and 2018, so they already know what it’s like to raise the bar.

Vance has high expectations for the new Bruce 22 and the efficacious 180-hp E-Motion outboard after he reached 25 mph in 2018 in a Torqeedo-powered Calypso Panga and hit 30 mph in 2019 in a Volt 180 powered by a Torqeedo Deep Blue 80.

“We are thrilled to return to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout to showcase the unveiling of our new Bruce 22 electric boat coupled with the E-Motion outboard motor,” said Mongeon, who added that the boat is going to be on display all weekend at dock 6 at Captain Ron’s. “We have once again teamed up with Randy Vance as we seek to break our previous category record set in 2019. According to a press release from Vision Marine, which recently announced plans to chase the electric-outboard-powered boat speed record, key features of the company’s proprietary E-Motion technology are dramatic increase in efficiency, torque, power and general performance, exceptionally fast-charging capabilities, noiseless engine with minimal vibrations, sustainable solution with zero emission, and 90-percent reduction in fuel and maintenance cost versus traditional internal combustion engine-powered boats.
