Stars Of The Shootout On The Strip

When it comes to the Wednesday evening Shootout on the Strip presented by Waves and Wheels during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri, the show never disappoints. And—despite the hot, humid conditions that remained for the go-fast-boat buffs strolling up and down Bagnell Dam Boulevard between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. last night—the turnout for the Shootout on the Strip was astonishing.

As in years past, there was hardware you won’t see anywhere else in the country; some serious showstoppers. Between the displays from MTI and Mystic Powerboats to the entire Performance Boat Center setup—which included a couple of the dealership’s Wright Performance catamarans and its Super Stock-class Doug Wright cat, plus three boats belonging to the Kansas-based Miller family, the M CON Skater Powerboats Supercat-class raceboat, a Skater 368 pleasure boat and a Cigarette Racing Team 41 Nighthawk center console—the presentations along the boulevard were phenomenal.

The Bio-Kleen team was well represented once again, as was Marine Concepts Motorsports with its Renegade models, Midwest Boating Center with its Nor-Tech offerings and WIA Marine Insurance with a couple of customer boats and the CR Racing team’s Super Stock-class Doug Wright. The Big Thunder Marine display, which included new models from Donzi Marine and Fountain Powerboats as well as the world’s fastest Baja Marine (Chad Prater’s 35-footer that is going to be racing this weekend), also was a winner.

And, of course, the Waves and Wheels display was on point with an enormous fleet, including a Skater 438 cat on a 90-degree tilt trailer, a couple of PlayCraft pontoons and the stunning Scalp Hunter Apache project collaboration with Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center that was the subject of thousands of photos and videos after it was unveiled on the Strip in front of its patient owner, Todd Crossley.

Even with the Scalp Hunter unveiling, it would be difficult to say that any one boat stole the show more than Alex Pratt’s latest Good Boy Vodka-branded machine. That’s because Pratt’s “new” 50-foot turbine-powered Mystic Powerboats catamaran that was repaired, painted and rigged by the talented team at Hydroflat in Louisiana features attention-getting graphics, shoots flames from its T-53 turbines and had plenty of eye-candy around it. The lovely Speed On The Water ladies—the largest group to walk the Strip yet (thanks ladies!)—sure enjoyed getting a closer look at the Good Boy Vodka boat.

Congratulations are in order for Pratt and the team that got his boat ready for the country’s most-spectacular powerboat event, and congrats are in for order for Justin Wagner and the team at Waves and Wheels for continuing to support the Shootout and promote what is now unofficially the coolest “street party” in the powerboat world. Bravo Lake of the Ozarks Shootout organizers—the 33rd annual happening, which is presented by Performance Boat Center, is on track to be one of the best ever.
