Image Of The Week: A Sterling Moment On Lake Michigan

Seizing a rare opportunity to run with the pack this season, Sterling Performance Engines principal Mike D’Anniballe and his wife, Connie Cushing, took to Lake Michigan this weekend in their Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran powered by 1,100-hp engines of his own creation. As reported on speedonthewater.com, grassroots-organized fun runs out of Boyne City, Mich., on Friday and Saturday attracted more than 50 high-performance catamarans, V-bottom sportboats and center consoles from the likes of Skater, Cigarette Racing Team, Nor-Tech and more.

“We had a great time and everything went smoothly, but we got a bit confused about where we were going on Saturday,” D’Anniballe said, then laughed. “We went to Elk Rapids and most people went to Power Island. But we had a lot of fun.”

D’Anniballe and Cushing purchased the 38-footer about a year-and-a-half ago with the notion of expanding their boathouse to store it for easy use on the water. “But we quickly discovered that was going to be a nightmare,” he said, then chuckled again. “So we’re going keep our 30-foot Skater there.”

As for the Skater 388, D’Anniballe said that he and Cushing would consider selling it if they “got the right offer” but they are not actively looking for a buyer.

“The boat is the most incredible thing you’ve ever been in,” he said. “It’s just amazing.”
