Image Of The Week: Air Scarab

Though much of the high-performance powerboat market has evolved in different directions, there’s something classic about a big V-bottom sportboat in flight. Especially one with brawny lines and vibrant colors. Especially in Key West.

Last week’s Florida Powerboat Club poker run to the famed Florida city attracted more 150 boats and offered—at least on Friday and Saturday—some of the best weather in the history of the event. Among the participants in the mix was David Wilks of Florence, S.C., the owner of Alden Transport and Marine, who ran his 43-foot Scarab

Wilks and his passenger struck an aerial pose in the big V-bottom for speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden—a true old-school offshore V-bottom fan—and Boden captured the moment. The result is one of the coolest images to come out of this year’s Florida Powerboat Club Key West event.
