Inside SOTW Mag: Midnight Express 37 Profile—Packing A Punch

There were several reasons the new Midnight Express 37 Open owned by Maryland’s David Carey was one of the showstoppers during the Florida Powerboat Club’s Miami Boat Show Poker Run and Exhibit in the Florida Keys in February.

The quad Mercury Racing 450R engines—painted bright red to complement the boat’s black and red paintjob—on the transom of the luxury performance center console helped it stand out. As did the 37-footer’s gorgeous upholstery, marine mat flooring and audio system, all of which was color-matched and installed with the utmost attention to detail. Plus, it was the first 37 Open with two rows of bolster seats at the helm, a request Carey made when ordering the boat from the Miami-based builder.

But, most of all, it was Carey and his crew, an energetic bunch from Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar in Sparrows Point, Md., that drew the most attention to Punch It, Carey’s second 37-foot Midnight. Carey, who owns Tiki Lee’s and a couple of other restaurants in Maryland, brought the group along for the extended weekend to enjoy some boating and get the word out about the inaugural Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River in early July.

“The poker run was fun and I can’t say enough good things about the boat,” said Carey, who took delivery of the boat in December.
