Photo Essay: Nor-Tech Celebrates 30th Anniversary, 1990s Style

It’s been a busy week for the team at Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats in Fort Myers, Fla. On Sunday, they delivered two sold center consoles—a 390 and 340—to Mercury Racing’s debut of its newly combined 300R outboard engine and Advanced Mid-Section. Longtime Nor-Tech sales person Terry Sobo was among the company’s representatives on hand Monday and Tuesday at the Captiva Island event.

Last night’s Nor-Tech 30th Anniversary Celebration was nothing short of spectacularand there’s more to come today.

Two days later, Nor-Tech kicked off its annual dealer meeting at the Westin Cape Coral Resort. Nor-Tech dealers from around the country including Legend Marine of Texas, Missouri’s Midwest Boating Center, American Custom Marine in Michigan, SoFlo Boats of South Florida—as well as Canada’s Double R Performance—and more participated in two days of intensive meetings with Nor-Tech leaders and vendors.

By the time it was all over, the Nor-Tech crew and their dealers were ready to party. And that’s exactly what they did last night at the company’s 1990s-themed, 30th Anniversary Celebration at the Westin venue. The event attracted close to 300 people, while raising $80,000 for local charities through live and silent auctions, as well as direct donations from Nor-Tech customers from around the country.

White linen jackets and bright pastels—Nor-Tech was founded in 1991, hence the ’90s theme—were the order of the evening, one that included dinner, an open bar and live entertainment. From former Mercury Racing head Fred Kiekhaefer and current upper management of the Fond du Lac, Wis., company, to Stu and Jackie Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club and Ronnie Moran and Jon Smiley of MYCO trailers, the list of notable marine industry figures on hand was significant.

In proper Nor-Tech fashion, the party started early and ended late—but not before company co-founder Trond Schou took his guests through an entertaining and enlightening stroll down Nor-Tech memory lane.

“The celebration was Incredible and my customers were very impressed with the event,” said Michael Knoblock, the owner of American Custom Marine. “Everyone liked Trond’s speech about the history of Nor-Tech and how it started.”

Added Peter Roberts of Double R Performance, “It was pretty awesome. Trond’s speech was great. The people were great. And I had dinner with the bass player from AC/DC. What more could I ask for?”

Later this morning, Nor-Tech staff, dealers and customers will head on a fun/lunch run to Useppa Island. Look for images on speedothewater.com today and tomorrow.

The Nor-Tech crew will be on the water today with dealers and customers for a fun run to one of Southwest Florida’s most intriguing islands.
