Inside SOTW Mag: The Fountain’s Family Skater

Let’s get this straight—no one is saying that Michigan couple Todd and Danielle Fountain’s 46-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines isn’t family friendly, it’s just that the couple’s 28-foot Skater with a pair of Mercury Racing 300R outboards is an ideal boat for a family that loves to go fast on lakes in Michigan that aren’t named Lake Michigan.

“The boat is perfect—it’s fun to drive and my wife and kids love it,” said Todd Fountain, who owns Dynamic Fire Protection, a full-service fire protection company in Newport. “We’ve been running the little Skater all summer. It’s great for the type of boating we do up north. We can pop around on all of the smaller lakes in the area like Torch Lake, which is one of our favorites. The boat is much easier to pull around and get in and out of the water (than the 46-foot Skater named Tomcat).”

The 28-footer, which is the Douglas, Mich., custom high-performance boat company’s first build with the 300-hp naturally aspirated V-8 engines, features an incredible interior handled by Jamie Borg of Cutting Edge Interiors in Punta Gorda Fla., and a gorgeous paint job executed by the talented team at Skater, which also handled all of the rigging.

Dressed with a low-profile windshield and five exquisitely crafted seats in the cockpit, the flat-deck beauty includes a pair of Mercury Vessel View monitors, a Garmin GPS display ahead of the Mercury Racing controls in the center console, a custom-upholstered steering wheel and privately labeled Livorsi Marine Monster gauges.
