Inside SOTW Mag: The Steve Curtis And Gary Stray Interview

Miss GEICO crew chief Gary Stray and throttleman Steve Curtis have more in common than their involvement with the well-known Class ONE offshore racing team based in Riviera Beach, Fla. Both hail from the United Kingdom. Both were deeply involved with the now-defunct Union International Motonautique Class One circuit. Both are tough, experienced competitors with a deep knowledge of the sport.

Offshore racing veterans Gary Stray (left) and Steve Curtis are now on the same team.

Both wish they had the first race of 2020 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series behind them and were getting ready for the next one.

But they don’t and they aren’t. Stray, who is 50, and Curtis, who is five years his senior, are still waiting for the season to begin—Stray in South Florida and Curtis, who just arrived in the United States from his home in the English countryside, up north in the Orlando area. And that has given both of them plenty of time to reflect on the sport they love and are eager to return to when the 2020 season begins.
