Key West Poker Run At 125 Registered Boats, Shooting For 160

Though participants in this year’s Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run November 11-15 won’t have the traditional welcome distractions of offshore racing and the FPC Poker Run Village, that hasn’t slowed registration according to club president Stu Jones. Official sign-ups for the Pompano Beach, Fla., outfit’s signature event currently stands at 125 boats—with Nor-Tech and Cigarette owners leading the count.

Even in its modified on-scene format, the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run is on solid footing with registration. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

“Normally, this is where we are with registrations in early October,” said Jones. “Last year was a rare surge—we had 200 boats four weeks out.

“I don’t know that it will get to 200 boats this year, but I’ll be happy with 160,” he added. “We still have limitations on venues due to COVID-19 so we don’t want to get overbooked.”

As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, Jones renegotiated lodging rates at several hotels for club members. “Every single hotel partner we have dropped their rates from 30 to 50 percent,” he said.

The event will include group outings on Friday and Saturday for interested members. Both will include helicopter photo shoots.

Said Jones, “We are going to blow up Key West like never before with major coverage.”
