Striking Nor-Tech 450 Delivered In Naples, Next Stop Key West
Though a prior commitment will keep Matt and Lori Schulz from running their new Nor-Tech 450 Sport Center Console in this weekend’s Roar Offshore Fun Run in Southwest Florida, the East Grand Rapids, Mich.-based couple will tackle the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run next month. American Custom Marine principal Michael Knoblock delivered the breathtaking center console to them today in Naples, Fla., where they have a second home.
The second American Custom Marine-ordered Nor-Tech 450 painted by Stephen Miles Design—Miles and company painted one for another Nor-Tech dealer and will soon have another in the works for the Michigan-based dealer—the Schulz’s 45-footer is a jaw-dropper.
The 45-footer, which is powered by four Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines, is their second Nor-Tech center console—their first was a 39-footer—from the full-service Kimball, Mich., dealer. They kept the boat for two years before stepping up to its larger sibling.
“As usual, American Custom Marine overdelivered,” said Matt Schulz. “And Stephen Miles did a phenomenal job with the paintjob.”
From conception to final design, Lori Schulz worked closely with the Kentucky-based Miles. Called Lolo, the boat takes it handle from her nickname. Miles and Schulz exchanged ideas throughout the graphics creation process.

“I designed the paint with Stephen and he was incredibly easy to work with,” she said “It just kept getting better and better. I love it.”
Asked why they went with Stephen Miles Design, Matt Schulz offered a simple answer.
“We wanted the best,” he said.
The Schulz’s 45-footer is flush with features including a SeaKeeper gyroscopic stabilization system, a rear thruster, twin flat-screen Garmin GPS units at the helm, three Frigid Rigid coolers and three cold plates, an air-conditioning system, a generator and more. Lori Schulz said she’s particularly pleased with the boat’s cabin setup, which is equipped with push-button privacy glass for its porthole window.
“It’s a full cabin with a bathroom and a shower,” she said.
Today’s outing also left them delighted with the boat’s performance—and wanting more time running it.
“I can’t wait to put more hours on it,” said Matt Schulz. “It ran right through four-footers today and we didn’t feel them. And though it’s a big, it’s really nimble.”
