Kuttawa Cannonball Run On Track To Eclipse 2020 Event Record

Already ahead of its 2020 pace with 50-plus slots taken, the fifth annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run in Kentucky is on track to break its own 140-boat record set that year. The June 4-6 event, which is based out of Kuttawa Harbor Marina and tackles a 100-plus-mile course on Barkley Lake and Lake Kentucky, opened less than two months ago.

“I spoke with quite a few people this morning who were inquiring about it,” said Jeff Hoefling, who organizes the event with his friends Terry Martin and Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky. “Apparently the nice weather has sparked everybody’s interest

“It looks like we’re going to have a hell of a show,” he added. “We even have a guy coming all the way from Pickwick (Tenn.) with a 57-foot Jefferson yacht just to be part of the raft-up.”

New this year are covered docks for returning and would-be sponsors. (Sponsorship opportunities are still open for the event.) Added last year and returning this year are the food trucks—an instant Kuttawa Cannonball Run hit—serving the Saturday night dinner.

The organizers have not set a cap on the number of boats that can participate.

Kuttawa Harbor Marina will once again be the event’s host venue.

“So far no there’s no maximum capacity,” said Hoefling. “We’re welcoming everyone since it’s the beginning of summer and everybody’s ready to go and forget about all the B.S.

“We’re just going to try to build on what we learned last year,” he continued. “The food trucks, for example, were a hit. And we’re also going to be auctioning off some really nice gear.”
