‘Less Is More’ With Stunning Nor-Tech 390 Delivered By Double R Performance

Delivered last Friday to Scott Winch and Cathy Bain of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, a new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 390 Sport Center Console will ply the waters of the 1,000 Islands area this summer. Like those waters, the 39-footer powered by triple Mercury Racing 400R outboard engines boasts an elegant, deep-blue hue that the couple chose when they ordered the boat through Peter Roberts at Double R Performance, Nor-Tech’s Ontario-based dealer.

Delivered to clients in Canada, the latest Nor-Tech 390 Sport Center Console out of Double R Performance is simply stunning.

Though Winch and Bain previously owned a colorful 2012-built Nor-Tech 3600 catamaran, they dramatically—and appropriately in Roberts’ view—toned down the color palette for their center console.

“We have been working with Nor-Tech on colors more than ‘graphics’ lately,” said Roberts. “We found this color, Moraine blue, which is a Land Rover color. It shows differently depending on the sunlight, and once the customers saw it in the light they were blown away. It’s such a classy boat. We took a ‘less is more’ approach with the aesthetics on this build, and it worked out beautifully.”

“I love it—I love the way the color changes when the sun hits it,” said Winch, who has a second home in Southwest Florida. “We chose a center console for its sheer practicality and comfort—you can put 10 or 11 adults on board and everybody has a place to sit.”

Along those lines, the buyers opted for more-subtle, non-contrasting stitching for the double-diamond-pattern upholstery, which highlights contour over color. Rather than going with white cowlings and mid sections for the outboard engines, which would have contrasted sharply with the boat’s deep blue hullsides, they chose black cowlings and mid sections.

“There’s a lot of blue in the boat,” said Roberts. “The LEDs in the speakers have a lot of color options, but we delivered the boat with them set in blue. Same with the cupholder LEDs, same with the underwater lighting.

“And we delivered it on a top of the line custom MYCO trailer with spare tire mounted on a whole wheel assembly, which makes changing a tire much easier and convenient if you need to,” he added.

Said Winch, “I think I have two more solid leads for people who want Nor-Tech center consoles. I took out my neighbors yesterday and they fell in love with it. They said, ‘Now this is the boat I need to have.’”
