Maryland Offshore Skater All Set For Seven-Event ‘2021 Teasers Tour’

Thanks to their new and enthusiastic sponsor, Andy Imhof and the team at Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center in Rockville, Md., are gearing up for what should be a fun, eventful and marketable seven-stop poker run expedition with Imhof’s canopied 36-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran—the former Showtime raceboat—that they’re calling the “2021 Teasers Tour.”

With support from Teasers Gentleman’s Club in Key West, Fla., Imhof and company plan to campaign the rebranded Teasers Skater starting with the Reiter Cup Fun Run hosted by the Maryland Powerboat Club in Solomons in early June and concluding with the Florida Powerboat Club-organized Key West Poker Run in November, an event that Teasers owner Dave Johnson plans to step up and support on a sponsorship level this year. They’re even organizing an open bar poker run appreciation party.

“Dave and I met through a mutual friend, Paola Migueles, our team’s marketing director who handles scheduling, promotions and merchandise, and we sort of hit it off,” Imhof said. “He mentioned wanting to get more involved with the poker run—his business has supported the offshore world championships in Key West for many years—and possibly sponsoring a boat to promote the club during the event. I mentioned an idea about maybe sponsoring a boat on a poker run tour throughout the summer that would generate excitement heading into Key West. He loved the idea, so Paola put together some options for him and he was all in. We’re super excited to have his support. This is an expensive hobby, we all know that, but there’s nothing like it and he understands that.

“Dave runs a great club—our clients and crew go there every year we’re in town for the poker run,” he continued. “We always have a nice time. The staff is friendly and welcoming and the women are beautiful. We can’t wait to promote Teasers at events around the country as well as introduce Dave and the Teasers folks to other poker runs, runs that are way different than Key West. I’m hopeful they’re going to join us for the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout at the end of August.”

Imhof said the events on the 2021 Teasers Tour schedule include the three mentioned previously plus the Rockin’ the Harbor Poker Run in Baltimore in (June 25-27), the Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River (July 8-11) in Sparrows Point, Md., the Lookout Shootout Fun Run (Sept. 10-11) in Morehead City, N.C., and the FPC’s new Fall Fun Run To Key Largo (Oct. 8-10).

Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center is planning to showcase the new-look Teasers Skater 36 starting in June.

Along with running the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout’s three-quarter-mile course in the Skater, which Imhof said is going to be powered by two 540-cubic-inch engines he expects will make roughly 1,300 hp aside (they’re going on the dyno next week), Imhof is most looking forward to running the former world and national champion raceboat in the granddaddy of all poker runs, which coincides with the Race World Offshore-produced Key West Championships this year.

Like all of the events his crew plans to attend, Imhof said the Skater is going to be front and center at the docks in Key West and that team apparel is going to be available. Johnson said he can’t wait to see all the boats come into town again, primarily because he knows what the annual powerboat gathering means to the community that is very much dependent on tourism dollars.

“When I first came to Key West it was all about the offshore raceboats, and I immediately fell in love with the powerboats,” said Johnson, a military veteran who landed in Key West in 1987 and was one of the club’s original owners when it opened in 1992. “We’ve always supported the races—it’s consistently one of our best weeks of the year—but over the years it became clear that the people in town for the poker run were some of the best customers in the world.

“So, as part of the 2021 Teasers Tour, we’re inviting all the poker run participants to Teasers on Thursday night for a customer-appreciation party,” he continued. “We want to support the wonderful people who have supported us so well over the years so we’re going to host an open bar to show our appreciation. Tourism is what this island lives on and we just want to thank the powerboaters for continuing to return to Key West, especially at this point in time when our hotels, restaurants and other businesses could really use it.”
