Mercury Racing 300R Outboard Spec Power For 2019 Powerboat P1 SuperStock Racing Season

Currently running recently discontinued Mercury Racing 300XS two-stroke outboard engines, the Powerboat P1 SuperStock V-bottom fleet will repower with the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company’s new 4.6-liter V-8 300R outboard model in 2019. The new 300R outboard—equipped with a Sport Master lower unit—will be spec power for domestic and international SuperStock competition.

In 2019, all P1 SuperStock raceboats will be running Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines.

“The P1 Panther race boat is at the heart of our SuperStock championship and strategic partnerships are an integral part of our business model, so the relationship with Mercury Racing is hugely valued,” said Azam Rangoonwala, the chief executive of the P1 SuperStock organization, in a press release from Mercury Racing. “Embracing the latest technology by upgrading to the 300R outboard will not only increase racing performance but also maintain parity within the series.”

The V-8 300R powerhead provides a 44-percent increase in displacement compared to the 300XS. That, combined with four valves per cylinder and the DOHC valve train, enables the new four-stroke to generate “unprecedented torque and unmatched acceleration” from the lower end of the power band up to maximum engine speed, according to the release. The 300R outboard runs on 87-octance fuel and has a comparable weight to its two-stroke predecessor.

“We are very excited to continue our presenting sponsorship of the P1 SuperStock Championship,” said Stuart Halley, the general manager of Mercury Racing, in the release. “Their professionalism and focus is second to none.”

In addition to the surface-piercing Sport Master gearcase designed for boats capable of speeds of more than 85 mph, 300R outboards on the P1 SuperStock Panther V-bottoms will be equipped with Mercury Racing’s heavy-duty midsection that includes a factory-installed rear tie-bar mounting plate and side steering bracket assembly. The heavy-duty midsection features solid mounts and strong, forged transom brackets with single ram power trim and a remote trim pump designed to endure “the harsh offshore environment.” According to the release, the side steering bracket “provides a robust, integrated steering installation.”

“It is exciting to have our consumer products used in this highly competitive, one-design racing environment,” said Steve Miller, Mercury Racing’s director of marketing, sales and service, in the release. “There is no better way to prove their performance and durability.”

The 2018 P1 SuperStock USA Championship season finale is set for June 30-July 1 during the 34th Annual Sarasota Grand Prix Festival Presented by Hotelplanner.com in Sarasota, Fla.
