Swappping their catamarans and V-bottoms for snowmobiles, performance boat-loving folks from the North Atlantic Powerboat Association and elsewhere descended on Wyoming’s Saratoga Resort late last month for a long weekend of motorized recreation called the North Atlantic Powerboat Association Snowmobile Poker Run and Rally. The resort is owned by former offshore racer Michael “Doc” Janssen of the multi-time world champion Snowy Mountain Brewery team, which ran a 29-foot Outerlimits V-bottom, and is home to the craft beer business of the same name.

While last year’s last year’s event was set up as fundraiser for the children of Mike Fiore, the founder of Outerlimits Powerboats, this year’s running was a purely social function that pulled in a number of Outerlimits powerboats owners, longtime friends of Fiore and others. Among the attendees were Outerlimits V-bottom owners Mark and Nancy Tuck of Smithfield, Va., Canada-based Outerlimits customers Dave Scotto and Joel Begin, Marker 17 Marine owner Brian Forehand of Wilmington, N.C., (Forehand set the current V-bottom kilometer speed record in a 43-foot Outerlimits) and Janssen’s Snow Mountain Brewery teammate, Dan Davies.

“It was one of the best group events I have ever participated with in a snowmobile,” said Janssen. “We had participants from the U.S., Canada, China and Mexico. The snow, the weather and the group were wonderful.”

“It was fantastic,” said Tuck. “We had awesome conditions and a really good group of folks. And, of course, Doc Janssen was his usual great host.”
