Photo Essay: DCB Faithful Enjoy Another Memorable Regatta
Last weekend more than 70 owners of different era and size models featuring inboard and outboard power from DCB Performance Boats in El Cajon, Calif., gathered up for a couple of fantastic days on the Colorado River during the annual DCB Regatta at the London Bridge Resort in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Northern California-based photographer and videographer Kris Wesenhagen of KKJ Media was on hand to capture the fun and shared a bunch of images with speedonthewater.com, many of which you can enjoy in the slideshow below. Wesenhagen joined his cousin, Jay Catucci, who owns an M29 powered by twin Mercury Racing 400R engines, and had a blast socializing with all of the other DCB fanatics, which included one very happy couple in a brand new boat.
Easily the most clamored-about boat at the event was the new M44 Widebody model that was delivered to Mauricio and Angie Vivanco the day before Friday’s event registration opened. The stunning 44-footer, which is powered by twin Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines, features a sizable open-bow configuration that Angie Vivanco called her favorite part of the boat. “Everything went really well,” said Jeff Johnston, president of DCB. “Seeing everyone with smiles on their faces enjoying their boats is always my favorite part of the regatta. Although I have to say the flag drop from the London Bridge (below) that we put together this year for Saturday morning’s national anthem before we all rolled out was pretty cool. It was a 60-foot by 24-foot flag that a bunch of volunteers held from the top of the bridge. I think everyone will remember that part.
“It also was cool to have all four M44s we’ve built so far at the event,” he continued. “We had the new one, plus the white 1,100-powered M44, the Bananas XL M44 owned by Dave and Buffie Megugorac, and the Spooled Up M44 owned by Craig and Kim Hargreaves. The variety of boats that show up every year is so awesome.”
Johnston added that the company landed a few new boat deposits during the event, which added to the positivity. He said the most in-demand model is still the outboard-powered M37R Widebody, and thanks to Kris and Shelby Hansen, the Southern California-based owners who took delivery of DCB’s first 37-footer in August of 2020, interested customers got an up-close look at the company’s first true-tunnel catamaran.
The only thing that didn’t go as planned was a lunch run upriver to Pirate Cove Resort in Needles, Calif., but that was out of DCB’s control as a drowning victim on Thursday was still missing and the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office was limiting boat traffic while the search continued.
“We made a last-minute decision to head south to Havasu Springs Resort instead on Saturday,” Johnston explained. “After lunch, we all met up for a big raft-off that was really fun. We like to keep everything at the event low pressure. We have a schedule, but it’s kind of structured informally because some people don’t like to be told where to go all day long. And I don’t blame them one bit.”
