Photo Essay: Support Our Troops Poker Run Marches On

If any body of water hosted more organized events in June than the Lake of the Ozarks, we’re not aware of it. Last month’s action on the famed Central Missouri waterway began with the Lake Race—the third contest in the six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series—followed by the record-setting fifth annual Cigarette Owners Rendezvous and the 12th annual Support Our Troops Poker Run.

And Performance Boat Center, the well-known full-service powerboat dealership in Osage Beach, Mo., had a hand in all of them. No big surprise there, but commendable nonetheless.

The final organized Lake of the Ozarks event in June, Support Our Troops attracted approximately 70 boats and raised more than $25,000 for H.E.R.O.E.S. Care, a Fenton, Mo.-based program that “provides support for members of all branches of the military and their families through pre-deployment, deployment, family reintegration and post-deployment.” Title sponsors included Fast Fuels, Performance Boat Center, Poly Lift Boat Lifts and Pro DeZigns.

“We started at the Camden On The Lake Resort as we always do, and made various stops throughout the day,” said Missi Coil, one of the key organizers of the event, who is married to Performance Boat Center’s Myrick Coil. “And we finished the day with a really nice dinner and a DJ at Dog Days.”

More than 300 people took part in the event. Participating boat owners hosted more than 40 members of the United States military spent the day on their vessels for the day.

“Every dollar that comes into Support Our Troops is donated to H.E.R.O.E.S. Care,” Coil said. “During the last 11 years, Support Our Troops has donated more than $220,000 dollars. This year’s donation amount of $25,000 brings that total to more than $245,000 generated and donated so far. That can change the life of soliders and their families.”
