Race World Offshore Coming To Clearwater

Dubbed the Clearwater Hooters National Championships, Race World Offshore’s first event of the 2021 season is set for September 24-25 in the Southwest Florida community. The event—not to be confused with six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series—is the precursor to the Race World Offshore/American Power Boat Association Key West World Championships scheduled for November 14-17.

Though the division of classes has not been announced and a current roster of registered teams has not been released—Race World Offshore’s Rodrick Cox said 30 teams have signed up so far. The competition be divided into the three races on Sunday.

The first contest is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., followed by races at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Race World Offshore will stream the action live on its Facebook page.

As it has all year, the Super Stock class will have strong representation on the 4.38-mile oval course. According to class representative, the CMR Racing, CR Racing, FJ Propeller, Jackhammer, LPC Racing, Performance Boat Center/FASS, Team Allen Lawncare and Landscaping, Turtle Cove Marina and Wicked Powerboats teams are committed to the event.

An APBA series race, the Race World Clearwater event can be used for series points by Super Stock and Supercat teams that opt to drop a prior result and replace it with their Clearwater performance. (Both classes agreed to a drop-race points format, which also included the P1 Offshore St. Petersburg Grand Prix earlier this month, before the season began.) The course is known to be fast thanks to typically calm water conditions and its straightforward layout.

“It’s the normal, up-and-down-the-beach course, but it tends to get sloppy at the south end near the pier,” said Beckley.

With the exit of WHM Motorsports team from the Supercat-class ranks for the near future, that class should see a three-boat with the Chariots Of Fire, CJ Grant/Graydel and M CON teams in the mix . SV Racing team, which until this season competed in the Supercat ranks but was moved by class vote to Class 1 for its out-of-spec Mercury Racing 860 engines to Class 1, also will run in Clearwater.

“SV Offshore will race during our race as well to my knowledge,” said Tyler Miller, the owner and throttleman of the Kansas-based M-CON team. “The Factory 450R Stock class may also be running with us.”
