St. Clair River Classic Signs Magna As Presenting Sponsor

Magna International, , Inc., a Canada-based “mobility technology” company serving automobile manufacturers in the electric and autonomous vehicle world, will be the presenting sponsor for the St. Clair River Classic. The fourth stop in the six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, the event is scheduled for July 30-August in St. Clair, Mich.

“Partnerships with the local community have been critical in funding this year’s event, as we have re-shaped how the event will look and be produced,” said Steve Brunner, president of the Blue Water Offshore Racing Association, in a press release from the locally based organization working with the Offshore Powerboat Association on the weekend-long happening. “We are extremely excited about this new partnership with Magna.”

Magna recently announced the building of a new plant in St. Clair to supply battery enclosures for the all-new 2022 GMC Hummer electric vehicle, according to a press release. Magna International employs more than 158,000 worldwide.

“We are thrilled to be able to sponsor such an exciting event that’s within two miles of Magna’s newest manufacturing operation,” said Chris Hinman, the general manager of Magna Electric Vehicle Structures-Michigan, a new division that will be hiring for the next six months to fill more than 300 jobs. “It’s a great opportunity for us to support the community and potentially attract new and future employees.”
