St. Clair River Classic Organizers Building Momentum For 27th Annual Event

Following tomorrow’s Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix in Southwest Florida, the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championships Series swings north to Michigan for the 27th annual St. Clair River Classic. The July 30-August 1 is the fourth race in the series and one of three freshwater contests on the circuit.

In addition to the Offshore Powerboat Association and P1 Offshore—both APBA-member organizations—the St. Clair based Bluewater Offshore Racing Association has been pivotal in organizing and planning what will be, according to a press release, the “re-birth of a grassroots St. Clair River Classic.”

“It is an honor to once again help bring the St. Clair River Classic to its impressive 27th annual race,” said Steve Brunner, the president of the Bluewater Offshore Racing Association, in the release. “This year, 60 plus racers will turn their sights on St. Clair in what is shaping up to be a great boat count and show for the local race fans.”

According to the release, fans of legal drinking age will be able enjoy adult beverages within the event venue, which includes Palmer Parks, Rotary Park and more from noon to 11 p.m. thanks to a recently passed local regulation. Live entertainment for weekend being programmed by the St. Clair Chamber of Commerce and the Riverview Plaza.

The St. Clair event has long been a staple of the Offshore Powerboat Association’s annual schedule and is reportedly among the most fan friendly—thanks in great part to the local community—events in offshore racing.

“We are looking forward to working with Bluewater Offshore Racing Association to continue to stage an event that excites and entertains,” said Ed Smith, the president of the longstanding New Jersey-based organization, in the release. “Partnerships are at the heart of our own business.”
