GLOC Shootout Wrap-Up: Mystic, DCB and Fountain Deliver Strong Performances

Last weekend’s GLOC Performance Boat Challenge Shootout in Grove, Okla., saw a combination of almost 30 catamarans, V-bottom sportboats and high-performance center consoles compete on the three-quarters-of-liquid-mile course. As reported Saturday evening, the 200-mph top-speed posted by the American Ethanol team of John Cosker and Tony Battiato in Don Onken’s 9,000-hp 51-foot Mystic stood as the fastest pass of the event. Also not to be surpassed was Tony Chiaramonte’s second-place overall run of 170 mph in No Boundaries, Shawn and Stacy Gibson’s DCB Performance Boat M35 catamaran with Mercury Racing 1550/1350 dual calibration engines.

On the V-bottom side, Ernie Dampier reached 126 mph in Haulin’, a 42-foot Fountain out of Camdenton, Mo. Like Cosker and Battiato and Chiaramonte, Dampier reached achieved that speed during the first day of the contest.

In other notable performances:

•Offshore racers Neil Wobbe and Karl Steger ran 122 mph in Second Amendment, their 36-foot Spectre catamaran.
• Mark and Tiffany Massen of event sponsor Poly Lift Boat Lifts ran 77 mph in Merica, a new 34-foot Nor-Tech catamaran, and Poly Lift’s Mike Massen ran 94 mph in the family’s 42-foot Cigarette
•Contininuing to carry the Big Thunder Marine—another event sponsor—team banner, Battiato ran 90 mph in a new 38-foot Fountain with Mercury Racing 565 engines.

Despite a rain delay, Friday’s Troops Tour of the boats on Grand Lake raised approximately $4,900 for the Combat Vets Association of Grove—Chapter 10-5, according to organizer Ken Little.

“It was a great event and we were happy to have all the wonderful participants,” said Little. “DCB blew people away with the beautiful boats and their speeds. American Ethanol and 2nd Amendment—our local crowd favorites—were wonderful as they always are.”
