High Jinks From Another Successful Shootout On The Strip

There’s not a whole lot to say other than the massive Shootout on the Strip gathering on Wednesday evening during the 32nd annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout was another winner. Despite temperatures above 90 degrees and some Central Missouri humidity to go with, Bagnell Dam Boulevard was chock-full of boating enthusiasts looking to check out some of the coolest pleasure and raceboats from around the country at the event presented by Waves and Wheels.

With chief photographer Pete Boden leading the way, the lovely Speed On The Water ladies hit the strip to catch up with many of the industry’s most prominent figures and get a closer look at some of the fastest boats in town for Super Cat Fest at Camden on the Lake Resort as well as the remaining Shootout events, which include Thursday night’s Performance Boat Center party, Friday’s poker run and the top-speed races taking place on Saturday on Sunday at Captain Ron’s Bar & Grill in Sunrise Beach.

As you can see from Boden’s slideshow of images from earlier this evening, the women, who were taking pictures with the fans and collecting donations for Ozarks Kat and K9 Shelter, made a ton of different stops and had a great time along the way. They danced with the DJ mixing tracks from the Waves and Wheels PlayCraft Boats tri-toon, they took pictures with kids in front of the remarkable Outerlimits 46-foot catamaran Hurry Up, they posed in front of the five-time-defending Shootout Top Gun boat—the American Ethanol Mystic cat—they stopped for refreshments at Icehole, they hung out with Good Boy Vodka owner Alex Pratt, who has been super busy this week (and well before it) getting things ready for a weeklong launch party for the brand, and, best of all, they filled the donation jar to capacity.

As of Boden’s delivery of images for this story, the tally of how much was raised wasn’t finalized, but we’ll be sure to promote it once we find out.

As a follow-up to the 2019 Shootout on the Strip, which was arguably the best one to date, the Lake of the Ozarks faithful did not disappoint this year in terms of attendance and promotion. With impressive showings from the title sponsor and local powerhouses Big Thunder Marine and Performance Boat Center, not to mention brand-specific displays from MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Renegade Powerboats and more, the gathering was definitely one to remember.

Surely being able to see the Team Black Diamond fleet—the Black Diamond 52-foot MTI catamaran, the Black Diamond Express MTI 340X and the Six Karat Cigarette Racing Team 59 Tirranna featuring six Mercury Racing 450R engines—set up with the freshly restored The American Outerlimits at the Waves and Wheels was pretty spectacular. As was getting a chance to check out Shannon Hamilton’s Low Altitude Mystic and Chris Cox’s Envy Mystic, both 50-foot canopied marvels that attract a crowd.

A special thanks should be given to the team of volunteers who work tirelessly to organize the Shootout on the Strip as well as Justin Wagner, the owner of Waves and Wheels, for continuing to step up to support the event and attempting to improve it every year.
