Image Of The Week: Flying First Class—Skater 388 Style—At Boyne Thunder

For the most part, Lake Michigan was on its best behavior for yesterday’s 18th annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run. Of course, a few of the 120 registered boats broke down and at least one ran out of fuel, but that had nothing to do with the moody waterway. That stuff happens at every poker run, and Northern Michigan’s gem of an event is not immune

But calm is relative on any waterway—you never know when a big cruiser wake, for example, might make for an exciting moment in your otherwise mellow day.

That’s exactly what happened to Louisiana’s Shane Guidry and company in his Skater Powerboats 388 catamaran yesterday. One moment they were connected to the glassy Lake Michigan water,. The next moment they were flying perfectly level above it.
