Image Of The Week: Parade Lap In Boyne City

No family enjoys the annual Boyne Thunder Poker Run, which kicks off in a few days with a welcome party, fun run and street party in advance of Saturday’s main event, than the Moes. Their 2,100-plus-mile haul—one way—from their Washington home to Boyne City, Mich., each year speaks volumes about their passion for the annual happening.

And who—having been to Boyne Thunder—can blame them? Between the small-town magic of Boyne City and the waters of Lake Charlevoix, Round Lake and Lake Michigan beyond its shores, the area is a summer boating paradise.

In town early for the event, the Moes experienced yet another aspect of Boyne Thunder yesterday as part of Boyne City’s traditional July 4 parade on their 46-footer dubbed Hurry Up.

Jason Moe, who hauled the family’s outrageous, 46-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats catamaran with his wife, Laurie, taking shifts behind the wheel, as well as their children and phenomenal deckhands Katelin and Colton, explained the attraction to the event.

“It’s well worth the drive with an incredible town of incredible people, plus our friends from all over the United States, with great weather and a big lake where I can go on and on and on,” he said.”

The Hurry Up catamaran has never looked so good at low speed as it did yesterday in Boyne City.
