Photo Essay: Devin Wozencraft’s Kuttawa Odyssey

Though we haven’t devoted coverage to it so far this season—at least until now—Devin Wozencraft’s annual summertime go-fast boating events tour, playfully dubbed the Wozencraft World Tour a few years back, is rolling. Just a month ago the Southern California-based high-performance powerboat insurance man tackled the Kuttawa Cannonball Run in Kentucky. This week, he’s headed to the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in Boyne City, Mich. By the time he finishes his 2021 travels with the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run in early November, Wozencraft will have shown up at a dozen events this year—and enjoyed meals at a dozen or so Waffle Houses across the country.

A picture-perfect weekend was on tap for last month’s Kuttawa Cannonball Run and Devin Wozencraft made the most of it.

As it happened, Wozencraft and I both showed up at the Kuttawa event. It was my first time and his second, and we both left blown away by everything from the hospitality to the waterways. We even had fine low-to-mid-80-degree weather with light humidity, not something you typically experience in Kentucky in June—at least according to Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design, one of our gracious hosts for the weekend.

“The Kuttawa Cannonball run is a fast-growing event that sits on two good size lakes that isn’t too much of a drive for most Midwesterners,” said Wozencraft. “It offers a chill atmosphere where no one is in a rush to do any more than just socialize and go boating.”

As he always does, Wozencraft came home with a slew of images from the Kuttawa happening and sent us a few hundred of them. After Boyne Thunder, he’ll head to the LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run on Lake Erie in Ohio, the Erie Poker Run in Pennsylvania, the Lake Champlain Poker Run in Vermont, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and concurrent Super Cat Fest events in Missouri and the Lake Cumberland Poker Run in Kentucky before finishing up his travel season in Key West, Fla.

In the meantime, enjoy his images from Kuttawa. And if you don’t find yourself in one, don’t worry. You still have plenty of opportunities this season.
