Wozencraft 2020 World Tour: Nine Events In Nine Images

Despite the countless challenges of 2020, Southern California-based high-performance marine insurance man Devin Wozencraft tackled his annual trek—30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran in tow—to events around the country. Blockbuster event cancellations from the Desert Storm Poker Run in Arizona to Northern Michigan’s Boyne Thunder Poker Run pared down his usual “Wozencraft World Tour” schedule somewhat, but he still made it to nine fine happenings.

No matter where he travels for a boating event, if there’s a Waffle House in the area Devin Wozencraft will find it. Photos by Devin Wozencraft copyright Wozencraft Insurance Agency.

Wozencraft started his tour in Kentucky with the 140-boat Kuttawa Cannonball Run in early June and finished with the Fort Myers Offshore Turkey Run in Southwest Florida in late November. Between those events, he hit the Support Our Troops Poker Run at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, the LEOPA Thunder Fest gathering on Lake Erie in Ohio, the unofficial Skaterfest in the Detroit Metro area, the Lake Champlain Poker Run in Vermont, the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run and the MTI Fun Run to the Florida Keys.

And that was a solid schedule for him—one that compared well to those of years past.

As he does every year, Wozencraft delivered hundreds of images from each happening to speedonthewater.com. Unlike in years past, however, he delivered them all simultaneously—yesterday to be precise. Time not being on our side with the 2020 Speed On The Water Year In Review issue bearing down on us, we took the less-is-more route with this one by choosing and publishing our favorite photo from each event.

Wozencraft’s top three events of the year were the Kuttawa, Champlain and Key West events. But for 2020, the Kuttawa Cannonball Run was his favorite.

“Kuttawa was the first event to take place after the pandemic went into full effect,” he said. “All other events up to this point had been cancelled. Some people did not participate due to health concerns, but many people were stir crazy from the lock-downs that they needed to get out.

“The Kuttawa event proved to be therapeutic for many of us boaters,” he continued. “Add that to an easy laid-back lake lifestyle at the twin Lakes, along with Stephen Miles and company, and you have a pretty good footing for a successful boating event.”
