Image Of The Week: Taking Skater Head On

Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden delivered a slew of outstanding aerial photos from last weekend’s informal gathering of Skater Powerboats catamaran owners and their rides in the Detroit Metro area. We thought we’d seen and published the best of them.

We were wrong. The best was yet to come.

Skater 368 catamaran owner Phil Piccinin came out with one of the coolest images of last weekend’s photo shoot—and our Image of the Week—from the unofficial Skaterfest happening in Michigan. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix/speedonthewater.com.

Yesterday, Boden, who likes to surprise us and knows we’re suckers for head-on action images, delivered this water-level beauty of Canadian Phil Piccinin and his son, Bryden, running their 2007 Skater 368 cat. As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, Piccinin purchased the 36-footer powered by Mercury Racing 700SCi engines in 2018 and promptly delivered it to Chris Mills of Boat Customs in Caledonia, Mich., for fresh graphics.

“He joined us on the Sunday afternoon run but couldn’t have lunch with us,” Boden said. “He wanted a real-world down-the-tunnel shot, and we got it.”
