Image Of The Week: Fort Lauderdale’s Mercury 450R Outboard Blues

By all accounts, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which closed earlier this week, experienced miserable heat and humidity that hampered outdoor visitor traffic. But the South Florida show went on, of course, with performance-oriented powerboat builders including Iconic Marine Group (Donzi and Fountain), Deep Impact, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats and Performance Boat Center (Sunsation Boats and Wright Performance) displaying their latest models at the event.

Speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden braved the sweltering Fort Lauderdale weather and obscene parking prices to shoot the show for a day. And he came back with a great shot of a couple of Formula Boats models docked stern to stern and showcasing eight Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines in no less than three shades of blue.

That made for a pretty picture of some 3,600 hp hanging off a couple of Formula transoms. And though they didn’t do anything to mitigate the wicked Fort Lauderdale heat, at least the eight outboards looked really cool.
